The ground part of white sweetclover contains coumarin, o-coumaric and malonic acids, choline, tannins, resin, essential oil and vitamin C. The seeds of the plant are rich in fatty oil. White sweetclover has anti-coagulant and fibrolytic-dissolving effects, making it a useful tool for improving blood circulation and preventing thrombosis.

The aroma of white sweetclover has a powerful calming effect that helps reduce nervous tension and cope with depression and anxiety. However, white sweetclover steam treatments should be done in moderation and not too often, as excessive use can cause unwanted effects such as liver toxicity.

The use of white sweetclover is contraindicated in kidney diseases with hematuria, during pregnancy, as well as in cases of reduced blood coagulation and internal bleeding.
